HISTORY OF UTTARANCHAL
Uttaranchal came into being on November 9, 2000 after years
of promises and negotiations. The region was originally home
to Kuninda people in ancient times who practiced Shaivism.
Over time, Uttaranchal was ruled by the Guptas, Katuryi and
Chand rajas before finally falling into the hands of the British
who repulsed Gurkha attacks to take over the region.
