HISTORY OF RAJASTHAN
Rajasthan has seen many empires come and go. Originally home
to Rajputs who claimed to have descended from sun, moon and
stars, Rajasthan has been ruled by Magadha, Kushanas, Guptas
and the Mughal Empires. Later, the Gujars, Pratiharas, Chauhans,
Gahlots and other indigenous rulers established their independent
kingdoms in Rajasthan. With the advent of the British rule
in India, most of these kingdoms signed alliance with the
British, which allowed them to maintain their independence,
subject to certain political and economic constraints before
finally merging with Independent India.
