HISTORY OF KASHMIR
The earliest mention of Kashmir was made by Kalhana in the
10th century. Mughal rule was established in Kashmir when
it was conquered by Emperor Akbar. After 200 years of Mughal
rule, the Pathans came to power with Afghan ruler Abdul Shah
Abdali conquering Kashmir in 1752. Early 18th century saw
Sikh rule in Kashmir that was established by Maharaja Ranjit
Singh and the Dogras established their rule from 1846-1957,
after which the British took over Kashmir and handed over
the administration to Maharaja Gulab Singh
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS OF KASHMIR
The best time to enjoy a tour of Kashmir is in summer from
March to June but one can enjoy the snowfall and chilly temperature
during the winters also. The major cities and regions that
attract tourists are Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Khilanmarg,
Pahalgam and Amarnath among others. Kashmir is a haven for

Ski in Gulmarg and visit its biosphere reserve, the gondola

cultural ceremonies, dances and sports. The Mughal Gardens
of Srinagar, along with the Shalimar and Nishat Gardens are
a must see during your Kashmir tour. You can also receive
the blessings at the Vaishno Devi Temple, Shankaracharya Temple
and the Shiv Temple in Amarnath.
HOW TO REACH KASHMIR
Srinagar is connected through regular flights to Delhi, Jammu
and Leh. Jammu is the nearest railhead if one wants to reach
Kashmir through railways.
